For the first time in history, Russian and American airborne forces will hold joint drills in the US. The anti-terror exercises scheduled for May 2012 will get off to a flying start with a tactical landing operation and “terrorist” camp raid.

*“This is the first time such an event is being held,” Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Col. Aleksandr Kucherenko stressed, announcing the plan. “The Russian airborne will contribute a special task group that will exercise with US special service weapons.”

The drills were arranged by the Russian Airborne Command and a US military delegation in Moscow last December.

Russian soldiers will receive preparatory training in Colorado’s Fort Carson with the US weaponry and equipment they are to use during the operation. The drills include parachuting, operation planning, reconnaissance, assault operations and evacuations by helicopter.

“According to the exercise scenario, soldiers of the two countries will hold a tactical airborne operation, including reconnaissance of an imaginary terrorists' camp and a raid,” Colonel Kucherenko revealed.

The drills will take place between May 24 and 31. But it’s not all work: on May 27, the Russian paratroopers will get a chance to unwind at a baseball game in Colorado Springs.

Airborne troops from Russia and the Untied States would hold joint anti-terror drills in the U.S. state of Colorado between May 24 and 31, spokesman of the Russian Defense Ministry Col. Alexander Kucherenko said on Thursday.

According to the spokesman, it will be the first time that the Russian airborne forces have held exercises with the U.S. airborne forces on the U.S. territory.

"According to the exercise scenario, soldiers of the two countries will hold a tactical airborne operation, including the reconnaissance of imaginary terrorists' camp and a raid," Kucherenko said.

"After the operation, a helicopter will evacuate the soldiers," Kucherenko said, adding that the Russian soldiers will also exercise with the U.S. special service weapons in the drills in Fort Carson, Colorado.

Besides, the spokesman said, the Russian group will arrive a week ahead of the drills and attend a baseball game in the city of Colorado Springs.

Russian paratroopers have started testing a modernized portable radar that could be installed on airborne combat vehicles or carried by a small crew, the Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.

“The first six radars have been delivered to air defense units which are part of airborne and air-assault brigades stationed in Novorossiisk, Ivanovo and Tula,” Col. Alexander Kucherenko said.

The testing of Garmon portable radars will continue until the end of 2012.

According to various sources, the Garmon (1L122M) radar is designed to detect and track at least three types of airborne targets despite active electronic countermeasures.

The system weighs about 30kg and consists of an antenna array, a CPU, a tactical display and a Glonass receiver.

Soldiers from the Russian VDV and the US special forces will conduct joint counter-terrorism exercises at Fort Carson, in the US, the representative of the Defense Ministry of the VDV Major Irina Kruglov told RIA Novosti. Earlier, the commanding VDV Lieutenant-General Vladimir Shamanov said that the Russian Paratroopers plan to take part in several international exercises in 2012, in the US, Armenia, and Tajikistan.

“During our trip to the US, the representatives of the command of the VDV discussed the specifications with their American colleagues in regards to the upcoming joint exercises, which are to be held from May 14th til June 1st, 2012, at the mountain training site at the Fort Carson military base in Colorado,” stated Kruglov.

In addition the representative of the Russian MOD confirmed that Russian and American soldiers have already inspected the military base facilities and ranges, where Russian troops will be based and train together with their American colleagues.

The Fort Carson military base is located near the city of Colorado Springs and houses the 4th Infantry Division of the US Army, the 10th Special Forces Unit, the 4th Engineer Battalion, the 13th Aviation Support, and other units. From the American side, the special operations forces of the US Army will take part, and from the Russian side, the intelligence unit of the Airborne Troops will take part.

Russian paratroopers will meet up with American forces next month for an unprecedented military exercise in Colorado, according to RT News.

It's the first time Russian service members will be invited into the United States for a joint drill.

A Russian airborne task force will "exercise with U.S. special service weapons," an announcement by Russian Defense Ministry spokesperson Col. Aleksandr Kucherenko revealed.

The official purpose of the joint training is to practice airborne tactics and anti-terror operations, such as dropping into a hostile area and conducting a "terrorist camp raid."

"Soldiers of the two countries will hold a tactical airborne operation, including reconnaissance of an imaginary terrorists' camp and a raid," said Kucherenko.


It's worth noting the Russians will have access to U.S. military weapons training at the Army's Fort Carson — "Home of America's Best" — ahead of the scheduled May 24-31 drills. They'll also be trained to understand and operate hardware used by U.S. forces in airborne missions including "parachuting, operation planning, reconnaissance, assault operations and evacuations by helicopter."

This announcement comes at a time when Russia actually has troops working in cooperation with China.

A joint naval drill in the Yellow Sea is currently underway, with Xinhuanet reporting the military exercises are focused on sea-to-air defense, anti-submarine warfare, recovery of hijacked vessels and shooting down aerial, maritime and underwater targets.

With 25 vessels and 13 aircraft deployed for the drill, it's reportedly one of the largest Russian-Sino drills in recent history. Xinhuanet reports:

Four Russian warships from the Pacific fleet, including the aircraft carrier Varyag are also participating in the drills. Missile destroyers, missile frigates, missile boats, a support vessel and a hospital ship gathered from China’s side for the drills.

But while Russia and China join forces for this week's Yellow Sea exercise, America isn't standing by idly. The U.S. military is conducting its own annual drills and war games in the Asia Pacific region — much to the displeasure of Chinese officials.

Manuel Mogato at Reuters reports U.S. Marines, partnered with Philippine troops, took part in a drill simulating an "assault to retake a small island" — a little too close to reality for China, which has been embroiled in a dispute with the Philippines, and other neighbors, over contested territory around the South China Sea.

Mogato reports China warned that the US-Philippines war gaming would "raise the risk of armed conflict."

But so far there's no official word from Beijing about what it thinks of its Russian ally traipsing over to Colorado next month. Perhaps the Chinese government has a keen interest in the upcoming American-Russian drills and is keeping quiet for the sake of learning something from Russia following the U.S.-hosted exercises at Fort Carson.

According to reports, the U.S. and Russian military will be engaging in an anti-terrorism exercise that will involve Russian paratroopers using U.S. weapons to “take and hold” the main facilities of the CIA and Denver International Airport in Colorado and the National Security Agency in Utah.

The European Union Times has more on the report announcing this exercise from the Russian Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation:

Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Colonel Alexander Kucherenko publically announced this 24-21 May “anti-terror drill” this Friday past noting that this will be the first time Russian airborne forces have held exercises with the US airborne forces on US territory. Colonel Kucherenko stated, “According to the exercise scenario, soldiers of the two countries will hold a tactical airborne operation, including the reconnaissance of imaginary terrorists’ camp and a raid. After the operation, a helicopter will evacuate the soldiers.” He further added that Russian airborne troops would be training with US special service weapons in these drills in Fort Carson, Colorado.

Puzzling to Russian military analysts about this exercise, this report says, are that according to the American plans, Russian airborne troops (using US weapons that they had previously trained with at Fort Carson) will fly to and then parachute from their planes having the objectives of seizing the CIA’s main computer facility in Denver, the NSA’s main computer facility in Bluffdale, Utah, and taking control of main runways and terminals of the Denver International Airport.

The purpose of seizing the Denver International Airport, this report continues, is for the evacuation of the key personal and equipment previously “freed” from the CIA’s Denver base, and the NSA’s base in Utah, who were, supposedly, under “imminent threat” from an unspecified enemy, according, that is, to the American scenario for this war game.

Also interesting to note, this report says, is that this entire exercise will be overseen by the “drone army” owned and operated by the University of Colorado who have over the past few years has applied for and obtained over 100 Certificate of Authorization’s (COA) from the US government to fly their pilotless surveillance aircraft for reasons still as yet unknown.

Business Insider notes this is the first time the Russian military will have been invited onto U.S. soil for a military drill.

Worth noting is Russia earlier this week launched military exercises in collaboration with the Chinese navy. Chinese state broadcaster CCTV said the six days of drills, which began Sunday, feature simulated anti-aircraft, anti-submarine and search-and-rescue operations, including electronic countermeasures and other sensitive technologies.

Retired major general Yin Zhuo said it shows a high degree of trust between the sides.

“It’s an excellent exchange for China to be able to drill jointly in such sensitive areas,” Yin told CCTV.

China’s Defense Ministry said China was sending two submarines and 16 ships to take part, including destroyers, escort vessels and hospital ships.

The deputy chiefs of the countries’ navies oversaw the start of drills in the northeastern Chinese port of Qingdao, the home of China’s northern fleet.

The U.S. and the Philippines are also engaging in war games, a drill which Reuters reports China saying last week would raise potential confrontation.

In the post-Cold War era, where your “average Joe” believes communism is dead, reality is actually catching up with fiction. In the opening scene of the 1984 movie Red Dawn, Soviet paratroopers unexpectedly show up in smalltown Colorado as part of a larger Communist Bloc invasion of the USA.

Later, troops from Cuba and Nicaragua land on America’s shores.

The action really begins when patriotic high school students take to the hills, organizing a guerrilla army called the Wolverines. Of course, the good guys wins, routing the commies.

On April 20, China’s communist-controlled media, citing the Russian Defense Ministry, reported that airborne troops from Russia and the USA will hold joint “anti-terror” drills in Colorado between May 24 and 31. According to Colonel Alexander Kucherenko, “it will be the first time that the Russian airborne forces have held exercises with the U.S. airborne forces on the U.S. territory.” No kidding, Comrade Kucherenko.

”According to the exercise scenario, soldiers of the two countries will hold a tactical airborne operation, including the reconnaissance of imaginary terrorists’ camp and a raid,” Kucherenko said. “After the operation, a helicopter will evacuate the soldiers,” he said, adding that the Russian soldiers will also exercise with the US special service weapons at Fort Carson. Maybe their US hosts will give the Russians a guided tour of the Cheyenne Mountain Directorate, formerly the underground home of NORAD HQ, which is near Fort Carson.

As if to make the US government’s bold treachery palatable to patriotic citizens, Colonel Kucherenko informs us that the “Russian group will arrive a week ahead of the drills and attend a baseball game in the city of Colorado Springs.” That’s nice. While America slumbers, Russian soldiers take in a ball game and essentially practice how to invade the USA.

Looks like socialist president Barack Hussein Obama has effectively given the keys to the White House to the Russians. Something stinks in the Pentagon too. US military leaders are blind to the Soviet strategic deception.

Incidentally, sometime in 2012 MGM intends to release the much-delayed remake of Red Dawn. The retooled Cold War classic depicts a North Korean invasion of the USA, a highly incredible plot since the Stalinist state can barely feed its own army. The original premise entailed a Red Chinese invasion but, hey, you don’t want to offend one of your largest trading partners, now do you?

You are correct.

I just listened to the early morning show starting at 5:00 AM. This same guy also couldn't remember the President who signed the "Open Skies Treaty" either (Bush Sr.) after Russia made efforts to look like Communism was over.

Obviously some people haven't had their morning coffee yet.

They needed some knowledgeable guests to give facts and history on this subject. The average person knows something doesn't smell right but can't put their finger on it. I think you, Rick, PT, Jeff Nyquist, Ryan Mauro and a few others should get on some round table discussion podcasts to lay it down like it is.

Very few have studied or had access to TAA material. No one talks about this stuff.

If this site wasn't here I would surely know less than what I do now. Few are knowledgeable enough to talk about this subject without sounding like kooks.

It was disturbing just how little the average person really knows about Russia, China and their allies military developments coupled with the dangerous actions from the Clinton and Obama Administration.

I don't think there has been ANY local news here about the Russians at Carson.

In fact, I asked around and no one around here has heard about it. This is a place where we all seem to be pretty much in the loop about intelligence things. In this case, however, let's consider the fact that the US Gov invited these guys here so it's considered "innocuous" - basically "harmless fun" for the two military groups to get together and "train" together.

To ME there is a bigger issue.

While this is apparently aimed at combating terrorism, this is something you don't do... give away your operations. Good OPSEC is keeping your abilities, practices and knowledge limited to yourself and away from your possible enemies and adversaries.

By training together you give away the farm. You tell them everything you do for training, show them what you're doing, they get to learn from you as well as the reverse. If there is any sort of thinking going on then the Russians will train with us, and learn our tactics without giving away their OWN tactics and abilities.


My bigger issue is that now the Russians have gear on the ground in the US, they get to see the terrain first hand, they get to learn the altitude problems (I'm at 7000 feet roughly here and Carson is less than 10 miles from me). They can SEE NORAD from Carson. They can SEE Peterson from Carson. They can get an idea of the lay of the land between all five of the local bases - some dedicated to missile defense and training (Air Force Academy).

There's nothing strategic in this event, merely tactical. But tactics on the battle field can win your bigger war when you have had the chance to study the adversary with great detail on their own home soil.

--- Alright... I JUST had a conversation with a co-worker. She said that our military isn't stupid. They KNOW what they are doing. They did this for a reason. They have some idea in the back of their minds to "learn from the Russians".

So - how many here think that we're doomed? This is a person who works with me and understands OPSEC....

The whole thing makes about as much sense as one football team training with their arch rivals and letting them view their playbook. However, the potential fallout (pun intended) has much greater implications.

Let's spitball for a moment... anyone care to estimate what percentage of Russian troops on the ground are highly trained Spetznaz troops? Were our troops privy to all equipment brought onto US soil? Could they walk a nuke or two onto our soil without even trying?

I don't think they "walked nukes" in. I think they were genuinely invited by the current political structure (Note, I didn't say Administration - because I have a feeling, which is all I have, this was a lower level thinking experiment that went to far).

I suspect they only brought their toys to play with them and this might be nothing more than a "real training mission" for some reason. In other words, this is the surface we're seeing - there is something deeper and perhaps more "meaningful" to someone about this. Maybe we're cross training troops to deal with the other country's insurgents later....
