Arab world nervous about Barack Obama's pro-Israeli chief of staff

The Arab world has voiced concerns about Barack Obama appointing an Israeli as his chief of staff.

The notoriously pugnacious Rahm 'Rahmbo' Emanuel, a 48-year-old congressman from Chicago, makes no secret of his support for Israel.


He holds both an American and an Israeli passport, spent regular summer holidays in Tel Aviv and joined the Israeli army reserve during the first Gulf War in the early 1990s.


But while the appointment prompted initial dismay among some in the Arab world, governments in the Middle East are being cautious before passing judgement.


They are waiting to see whether Mr Emanuel's strong Jewish credentials might not be crucial persuading Israel to accept the two-state solution backed in principle by President-elect Obama and the Arab League.


When Mr Emanuel's appointment was announced, commentators across the Muslim world voiced their concerns.


He was denounced as a "pro-Israeli hardliner" by Ali Abunimah from the Electronic Intifada.


"There could not be a more provocative appointment than Rahm Emanuel, if he wanted to send a signal that he is going to stick by a quite hard-line pro-Israel policy," he wrote.


Internet blogger Zahed Amanullah, wrote that Mr Emanuel's appointment gave "Muslims pause for thought".


Writing in Saudi Arabia's Arab News, Osama al-Sharif said Mr Emanuel's new position ended any euphoria felt at the end of the Republican hold on the White House.


"For millions of Arabs who expressed jubilance at the monumental victory of Obama, [Emanuel's] appointment has put a damper on a short-lived fiesta," he wrote.


Morocco's leading Arabic-language newspaper al Massa said Emanuel's powerful new job indicated the "lengthy arm of Israeli clout inside the Obama administration".


And among many on the Palestinian Street the knee jerk reaction to his appointment was largely negative.


This was not helped by the tone of a prominent Israeli newspaper, Maariv, when it described Mr Emanuel as "our man in the White House".


Mr Emanuel's father, Benjamin, who served with Zionist militants during the British mandate over Palestine in the 1930s and 1940s, stirred things when asked if his son would have an impact on Mr Obama's team.


"What is he, an Arab? He's not going to clean the floors of the White House," the older Mr Emanuel said.


But the fact that Mr Emanuel is both Jewish and committed to Israel could also be a deciding factor in persuading Israel to accept a future peace deal with the Palestinians.


And when it comes to Mr Emanuel persuading high-level Israeli government officials they will never be able to accuse him of not having the interest of Israel at heart.


Jeffery Goldberg, writing in the Atlantic, said Mr Emanuel's excellent Jewish credentials means he will be able to call the bluff of any Israeli leader.


"Rahm will call out such nonsense, and it will be very hard for right-wing Israelis to come back and accuse him of being a self-hating Jew," he wrote.


President George W Bush only came to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the last year of his presidency when he hosted the Annapolis summit to try to initiate a dialogue that would reach a peace deal.


If President-Elect Obama grasps the issue early on his presidency, Mr Emanuel could play a key role in reaching an agreement.

I can concur with the above statements by Rick, but I would like to add something that Rick and others may or may not agree with.

It is true that I can punch holes into conspiracy theories such as NWO, but I have had some trouble punching holes into the theory of ideological subversion. I would welcome input. I can believe that during the Cold War the Soviets advanced great changes in the United States. I believe they have and still are affecting our media, Hollywood, Education, political parties, and Judges on the bench. I believe the Soviets worked to demoralize our Nation. It takes 15 - 20 years (minimum) years to re-educate a generation (at least three generations have been educated in the US by liberal professors). Destabilization occurs next. What matters to destabilization is economy, defense, and foreign relations. Our Defense is good, a little thin right now and that may be a problem. Relations with others could be better, I suppose. And as you know our economy is on the verge of a crisis (so they say). The next step in the soviet process is a crisis. After the crisis, they expect us to require change and we better be careful what we ask for. After change occurs and it can occur peacefully or with violence a period of Normalization occurs. That is when we are all citizens are normalized. I don't care to learn much about this period. I don't reckon I'll need it.

In any case, I think we could be on the verge of heading toward Normalization. And I believe that the America people think we are at peace with the Soviets and we are at total war with them. We need to vote these commie sympathizers out of office and stop sending our kids to commie schools, we need to stop watching Hollywood movies, stop watching the Communist News Network, and remove some judges who wish to legislate from the bench. We have to start somewhere.

I guess we should take Rick's advice and start waking people up, then we can kick people out of office.

I've extracted the wonderful promises God gas in store for us, and this is some consolation and impetus to keep fighting the good fight- for there is a reward, and though their is a God who judges on earth- He does so in mysterious and merciful ways that requires we to must be needs patience etc...,

Anger consists in FEAR/INDIGNATION/SADNESS/TORTURE(pain).

Hi sami, regarding Hal Turner and the Amero video, he wrote on his blog about interacting with somebody who works at the Denver mint. It has been suggested it was a hoax and there is a rebuttal video on youtube that comes up when you play his that you can view and decide for yourself. I didn't find the debunk convincing. I watched several Amero vids even on the news and one with Vincente Fox on the North American Union and when questioned on the Amero he said it is a ways off with one of those looks like he's lying. Hal claims that he finally received that Amero after waiting about 3 weeks after some issues in the mint over the information coming out. And this NWO video at post 1 and Hal Turner Amero video in the financial forum should not be mixed up. The one used to open this thread indeed says to get out of America, while Hal's advice is to get your money over to a foreign bank and have the US dollars converted to their currency. Just FYI stuff for ya.

Speaking of fear...you know it was actually fear of 666, the end of times, the mark of the beast, the antichrist that opened my eyes as a teen to the Word of God being alive and having something to say today, and starting me on the road to develop a relationship with God. Let me clear something up....

Ideological subversion is PRECISELY what we're up against and why 52% of Americans seem to think that "Socialism is Ok".

We've been inundated since we were children with various ideologies that represent the "best of the best" and the "worst of the worst" being pooh-poohed.

As an example, I have a daughter who is afraid of guns. She was TAUGHT that in school, against my best teaching, and in spite my wife and I teaching her otherwise. This is a leftist agenda... teach the kids guns are bad, they won't have them, then you CONTROL the very next generation.

Look at the number of anti-gun people out there now. Look at their ages. Between the ages of 6 and 40. Period.

Another example.... "Big Business and Profit is Evil". This exemplifies the idealism that "Capitalism is VERY bad for workers". Look how many people believe this now... and look at their ages... between the ages of 6-40, period.

Yet another example of ideological subversion is teaching people that our politicians "All Lie" and "Chose the best of the bad guys to lead us" - and that a simple SAYING rounds up everything into a nutshell and from THAT you can best chose your new leader.

Look who got the votes. Look who voted for him. People between the ages of 6 and 40, dead people and illegal immigrants...

Seriously though, if "McCain can't even tell you how many houses he has" and "Obama is for CHANGE!" are what people are looking at (and BELIEVE ME, in my interviews with the cleaning crew here at work that's EXACTLY the responses I received!) then what kind of ignorance does it truly take to give the leadership of this country away to an incompetent, do-nothing, Socialist? Not a whole hell of a lot.

Lastly - about Biblical prophecy... Let me clarify something here as well.

There was much, much more in that statement than people seem to realize. In fact, let me find and quote the entire reasoning for you here....

While this is part and parcel of Communist theory, to remove, to indeed FORCE atheism upon people, this does not preclude the USE of religion - one's own religion against oneself.

I'll explain. If you are some one who per chance believes strongly in "UFOs" and "UFO abduction" for example, and perhaps even believe yourself to have been abducted before by aliens then you are a prime candidate for some simple brainwashing.

One reason I spent sooooooo much time with Anomalies and the people there was a study of what thinking processes these people went through. How does one become a Conspiracy Theorist? How do you come to believe yourself abducted by aliens (when there is certain evidence you have NOT been abducted)? Many other questions come to mind, but you get the gist.

If I wanted to change you into a conspiracy theorist from a "UFO nut" it wouldn't be difficult - I have the means, methods and information whereby I could convince someone of a mind involving aliens that the government certainly not only knows about them BUT WORKS WITH THEM ON A REGULAR BASIS. With the right amount of data and putting it in the right context (for me anyway) I could convince people that there is a whole 'nother world of beings just waiting to pounce on us with the government's blessing.

In fact, there are indeed people who do JUST THIS.

Now, a step further. Religion. Religion, my friends does not depend on factual information. It depends on Holy Books, stories handed down to us by God himself which we must TAKE ON FAITH ALONE! Therein lies the problem.

Take a whole lot of believers, folks who know Revelations inside and out and then slowly, inexorably convince them of the up and coming "End Times", point to various (perhaps inconsistent) links in the Bible, verses which OBVIOUSLY point to the Russians, the Chinese, the Guy with the Blue Turban and the Anti-Christ.

Take people who are not as well versed in the Bible but are familiar - and then convince them that they are staring down the barrel of a US Government Owned M16 and the next Anti-Christ is GW Bush or Barrack Obama.

Over the course of the last twenty years I have WATCHED all of these scenarios develop before my very eyes.

Our old "Survival Lists" (before there were internet survival sites, or real web sites) used to be FULL of normal, everyday people like all of us, discussing how to store food, water, skin a deer, or start a fire. Eventually we were overcome with groups of these new survivalists, with political agendas, those who quoted the bible, those who were anti-government, those who hated this, or hated that. Eventually I left those lists and moved on because the lists became rampant with what we call "Agent Provocateurs".

An "Agent Provocateurs" is a person who is much more vocal than active. They will badger, pester and push, for others to do things, but never themselves take up arms or do something illegal. In many cases they are people who actually DO work for a government Agency, and they incite people to do things that otherwise normal, calm and common-sense imbued people would not do. And yet, they CONVINCE these normal people to do things that are just damned stupid.

Communism, friends, works in the same "mysterious ways" as does God. They take the normal sensibilities of people, assault them with outlandish idealism to the point that people become completely desensitized to the changes going on around them.

Socialism, regardless of what another man told me the other day (told me I didn't know anything about socialism in fact, because I don't LIVE under it like he does... lol) is simply an extension of the ultimate goal of Communism.

If you're a Socialist, it is not a whole step to the left to become a Communist, and societies, whole societies have convinced themselves and CONVERTED to this way of life in my lifetime. From normal, free, capitalism, to Socialism. Most of the European Union is SOCIALIST. People can't see this as good, and yet they do, for it is a RELIGION TO THEM.

The BELIEVE with all their hearts they are doing the right thing. They are convinced by fancy speakers, and great campaign slogans - and fall for these good looking guys with "high ideals".

So, my issue with religion, isn't religion itself. It's not "Bible Prophecy". It's the fact that Bible Prophecy can be used easily against people who believe so strongly in it. The fact that Communism will and does use anything and everything against what they hate so much, and that is Capitalism, freedom, and the US itself.

The United States stands as a bastion of Freedom, and impenetrable wall of American Ideology that is so hated by other people on the planet, they will do anything and I mean ANYTHING to subvert American people.

Khrushchev said, "We will defeat you without firing a shot" - so far, his words are themselves, becoming prophetic, never mind the Bible.

My problem with religious prophecy is people look so hard within it to see events of recent context, to turn it into something that's going to happen in their own lives. We all want to be a part of something big, something historic, that our lives will be witness to something truely Epic, rather than the day to day grind and tedium most people think their lives to be. Prophecy offers the potential of excitement. And oddly, it almost doesn't matter if it's good or bad. Both offer the potential to be witness to something bigger than themselves, witness something beyond the human experience.

It's a very tantilizing lure that the human mind desperately tries to make sense of with what it sees directly in front of it. We have such a desire to make sense of mystery, we stretch realistic possibility. Context gets lost, the mind runs wild.

I just find it very delicate ground that is subject to a lot of distortion based on personal desires and set opinions. And being a matter of FAITH... facts, logic, good reason often exit the dialogue and debating someone's prophecy convictions becomes an exercise in futility.

I would like to add that Socialism/Communism works very hard to remove God from public view. God and/or Religion are an enemy to the Socialist/Communist State. For in a Nation such as ours, we have been given God given rights. Not man or Government given rights and no man or Government should take what God has given us. I think it is important to fight to keep our God given rights. For I am an American. I pray to my God and we go handle our problems together. I do not pray to the Government to fix my problems. Socialist/Commies want you to look to the government from the cradle to the grave. Now, that don't mean we all go off half baked with our Religion, but we ALL should fight for our God given rights (not man given rights).


I understand what you are saying about religion and people too. I can see mass hysteria from the religious folks. I think we can be easily incited by outside influences. I say we because I believe in a God. But I can easily avoid these discussions. My interest is the matter with my Nation. Something is wrong. I could see it for years. I stopped reading newspapers and watching news on the TV back in the 80s. I knew there was a problem, but I never put my finger on it. I couldn't because there were all kinds of Conspiracy theories and stories. I think most of it is put on by the left in an attempt to keep the focus off the commies. Then I came across some lit that pointed me towards something that I really didn't want to walk towards, but I did. And it lead me to Ideological subversion. Andropov would be proud of his comrades in the States.


I myself am not very proud of them. As a matter of fact, I call them traitors. And I don't want to be one who just sits around and talks a good game, but I also don't want to go to prison. So, I don't like to call us to arms. I do like to call people to the voting booth though, but nobody is listening. It is easier to sit and listen to sound bites and read headlines and go about life. That is what a lot of people do in this Nation. Sad, that the people with the most to lose will do the least to protect it.

Biblical Prophecy in which people seek answers to recent events, or ATTEMPT to PREDICT future events can lead no where good.

Those things become SELF-FULFILLING PROPHECY!

This is where everyone is wrong in looking to Bible prophecy for answers.

I was brought up as a child in the Baptist church. I was married into a Catholic family. Truth is, I don't put much stock in either set of beliefs or doctrine.

If "Rapture" happens, I'll miss it because I will be too busy trying to put a scientific name on why people are vanishing.

Besides - I don't believe its going to happen, and I feel sorry for those caught up in the belief that some deity is going to step in front of a bullet for them, or stop a nuclear device from detonating over their heads.
