B-1 Rolls Into Vehicles After Landing
An Ellsworth Air Force Base B-1B Lancer bomber was involved in a collision with two emergency-response vehicles Friday after landing at a Guam air base.

The aircraft landed after declaring an in-flight emergency shortly after its initial departure from Andersen Air Force Base in Guam, according to a news release from the Ellsworth public-affairs office.

The aircraft cleared the active runway, but it was stopped on the taxiway just after noon Guam Standard Time, according to a news story on the Pacific News Center's Web site, www.pacificnewscenter.com.

Air Force officials said the B-1 then began to roll on its wheels and collided with the vehicles. There were no details about how that happened.

The 28th Bomb Wing vice-commander Col. Peter Castor said in the news release that there were no injuries.

"Our main concern here at Ellsworth is the safety of the aircrew piloting the B-1 and those on the ground," he said. "I am pleased to report there were no injuries involved to our Airmen or the emergency responders during the incident at Andersen Air Force Base."

The crew had already exited the plane before the accident happened, according to the Pacific News Center story.

A cause has not yet been determined, Castor said.

"The cause of this particular ground emergency is under investigation, and it would be inappropriate for me to speculate on what caused it at this point," Castor said through the release. "Official findings and other details will be released by 28th Bomb Wing Public Affairs as they become available."

The bomber was returning to Ellsworth after participating in the Singapore Air Show, which was held Feb. 19-24. Ellsworth crews flew the B-1 on a "nonstop 21-hour mission" to get the plane there, according to a story on the Air Force Web site.

The B-1 was part of a static display of military aircraft and equipment that included an F-15 Eagle, F-16 Fighting Falcon, F-18 Super Hornet, a WC-130 Hercules weather reconnaissance aircraft, KC-135 Stratotanker and B-1B Lancer bomber.
