Absolutely nothing dangerous about 4 exposed, giant fan blades.
Just add vodka!
You can bet that some version of that will be in one of the next Bond films.
I've been thinking on this subject a bit since getting a drone and one of my first thoughts was why not just scale this up. In fact, why not scale it up to true helicopter size...multiple people, etc. The advantage of the 4 props is stability and control. Maybe add a 5th that can help take over when one fails? It's coming...it has to.
By the way, my Mavic Pro arrives Wednesday. I still have to come up with something to tell the wife.
"Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat."
-- Theodore Roosevelt
I've thought the same thing...
It's been conceived:
Maybe now the control tech is mature enough for it to actually happen!
It's Russian! Given their track record with cars, I wouldn't trust that flying death machine ever. It's like a portable Lubyanka. I'm sure it will remove a leg, an arm or a head with equal indifference.
I'm thinking like a waterbike environment where if you fall (making sure it can float/ski and also have some wheels to taxi and steer) when you and your tethered cord unplug from the bike it goes into hover mode so you can get back on.
I think I'll wait on a real cockpit or anti-gravity version with a much longer range.

Hahahaha! Best comment I have seen on it...
"Is dangerous, like real scorpion!"
Also, some more on the X-22 in case anyone was curious:
With modern fly-by-wire avionics and redundant powerplant drivetrains like the V-22, something like the X-22 would definitely be far more feasible today. A lot has been learned through the V-22's growing pains. A quadrotor is definitely going to be the next step.
