A New 'Star Trek' Series Might Be In The Works At Netflix

    June 21, 2014

Is the Enterprise crew beaming over to Netflix?

According to recent Internet rumors, your favorite space series might be getting a reboot courtesy of the world's biggest video on demand streaming company. Netflix is reportedly more than interested in remaking "Star Trek," the popular TV series that follows the interstellar adventures of the USS Enterprise et al. But don't get your hopes up too soon, Trekkies.

Apparently, while Netflix has put out some feelers to CBS -- the company that, along with Viacom, owns rights to the franchise -- as of yet, nothing solid has been confirmed. It's not a surprise the streaming service is interested in the show that's become a staple in geek culture; currently, five series of "Star Trek" are available on Netflix.

Unfortunately, CBS and Viacom are notorious for their unwillingness to compromise on shared projects. Viacom prefers to work with Amazon and their streaming service Hulu while CBS mainly deals with Netflix. There's also premium cable networks like Showtime who'd probably like a say in who eventually gets to host a new series.

Ultimately, both Viacom and CBS are probably waiting to see how Marvel's venture with Netflix debuts -- a "Daredevil" reboot is currently in the works -- before they make a decision.

Ryan... there IS an internet series (or was). Remake. I know one of the people who worked on the shows. I don't have the links handy but I'll see if I can find it for you.

    Glenn Smith is my friend.

Glenn was a production assistant and bit actor in "Blood and Fire," second assistant director and unit production manager in "Enemy: Starfleet," and first assistant director and bit actor in the soon to be released "Bread and Savagery" and in the short "Going Boldly." He has also been a military adviser and an assistant to the line producer.

He is also the author of "Solfleet: Call of Duty".

From what he's told me in the past there was an attempt at rebooting the Original Series and doing story lines that added to the original series, filled in various parts etc.

Edit: George Takei, so did "Chekov", and Denise Crosby appeared in some of the shows that you can find on the site.

I've noted when I've gone to the site in the past that things don't always work so be warned.

    We need something.

Star Gate Universe has been off for 2 years now.
Star Trek Voyager has been off for 13 years
Star Trek Enterprise has been off for 9 years
SG1 has been off for 7 years
FarScape has been off for 11 years
Deep Space Nine has been off for 15 years.
Firefly aired, once or twice or out of order or backwards or some crazy shit
Lexx has been off for forever

I need a science fiction series in space.

Right now my only real "must see tv" is Longmire.

    Defiance is back on.

I enjoyed "The Last ship" that aired the other night. Rhona Mitra is delicious.

Yeah, I've seen that and I thought a different web Star Trek series fans have been trying to get to take off. I applaud their efforts but I want a real, studio backed effort with good effects that airs weekly, with 24 episodes per season, with strong casting, good writing, and set in the "modern" Trek universe. Is that too much to ask?

You're spot on Mal, we've been severely deprived of any decent in-space series for a while. You forgot BSG by the way, which we've at least gotten a couple morsels thrown to us via a couple straight-to-disc films and Blood and Chrome.
