MIAMI (CBSMiami) – If you’ve been looking at your bank statements and notice a strange charge of $9.84 that you can’t remember making, it likely came from a crook, according to a new alert from the Better Business Bureau.
The BBB issued a fraud alert as consumer complaints over the random charge that has been appearing. The charge is typically identified as “customer support” or may identify itself as coming from a variety of different websites.
The charges, first discovered by the Washington Post, are small so as to not attract attention as the thieves slowly drain accounts. According to the Post, the websites that were running the scam were connected to a handful of individuals in London, India, and Cyprus.
CBS News reports that if you see a charge for an amount like this notify your credit card issues immediately and request a new card and place a fraud alert on your credit file.
